AU history:
In the year 2105, the bright city of New York is the world’s last bastion of hope, for the rest of the world, and the heroes that defended it, have fallen to the Mist. While some have fled to the moon hoping to escape the Mist there, no other planet will accept an incoming ship from Earth for the fear that the refugees might somehow bring the Mist with them.

Bishop, a man who was once feared by every non human in the world, now runs the city, protecting every remaining human, beast, monster, and alien living on the now quarantined Earth. He had a plan to hopefully save them all. The plan was to snatch the heroes of the past from the jaws of the Mist and arm them with the future’s technology and give them a second chance at fighting it.
It wasn’t the best plan, but it was the only one they had. The problem was it required the use of the Time Staff, and although many people left the relative safety of New York to go find it, none returned. Many children lost their parents that way. Cody Jones was one of them.

The boy was the great-grandson of April O’Neil and Casey Jones. He lost his parents to the Mist at a young age and his Uncle, Darius Dunn, had been caring for him since. Or so he said. He was in fact controlling the boy and emotionally blackmailing him into staying at home “to keep him safe” and out of the way while Dunn got rich from “O’Neil Tech”. He planned to steal the company from the boy completely. Cody, being a smart and heroic boy like the rest of the Jones family, tried to come up with a way to stop the Mist. He eventually came up with the same plan as Bishop, only instead of trying to find the Time Staff, he put his time alone in the O’Neil building to good use and built a time machine.

While Cody was calibrating this time machine, the Black Mist crept into the city, causing mass disruption to the city and a power surge. This caused the test “window” to become a warp, bringing the Turtles and their Master Splinter from his grandparent’s time to his own. Splinter and the Turtles did not react well to suddenly finding themselves in a New York full of monsters and aliens and Black Mist, but they had little choice but to stay with Cody while he tried to repair the machine. Which was annoying but at least no one was trying to kill them for once...

...However, the Mist was responsible for more than just the Turtle’s trip though time; deep in the Chelsea Chasm, something awoke. He was a being that many had dismissed as myth: Sh'Okanabo.

Sh'Okanabo had crashed to Earth many, many years ago, and had to undergo a cryogenic sleep to recover from the wounds incurred in the crash. Upon seeing the Earth of 2105 almost overrun with Mist, he decided it was not as desirable as he had once thought. However, all his attempts to leave were foiled. Thanks, at first, to the turtles interfering. Then by the Turtles and Bishop, who together destroyed a booby trapped ship before it could destroy a grid of satellites that maintained Earth’s quarantine.

Instead of trying to escape the planet again, Sh'Okanabo decided to bring about the “Day of Awakening” despite the risk of the Black Mist. Since the turtles were involved in foiling both his escape attempts he assumed that they knew what he is. Also assuming they would try to prevent the day of awakening he decided to attack them directly. The Turtles were saved from this attack when the police arriving before Sh'Okanabo could finish them. The alien who didn't want to be seen by too many people fled when he heard the sirens. However, he managed to obtain the DNA of all four turtles which he planned to use to create creatures capable of dealing with them. These creatures are the Dark Turtles.

Seeing a potential Ally with Darius Dun, Sh'Okanabo sold him the Dark Turtles in exchange for all information on Cody’s time machine. Even though it was still malfunctioning, Sh'Okanabo believed he could make it work.
The Dark Turtles did manage to defeat the Original Turtles at first. They later escaped thanks to Cody’s interference. However Dunn saw their potential and agreed to the deal, deciding to keep the Dark Turtles as an ace in the hole...

An ace Dunn played when Cody finally turned on him; using the Dark Turtles to keep the TMNT busy while he deals with his nephew. Fighting one on one, the Dark Turtles and TMNT were equally matched, but when the TMNT started switching opponents, only Dark Leonardo is left standing. He refused to back down, stating it only took one to stop the original turtles from saving Cody.

But the odds were against Dark Leonardo, and Donatello managed to use a forklift to trap the clone, sending him crashing into a wall. The Original Turtles then rush to save Cody from his uncle, only to find that he had defeated his uncle himself. They were still unable tocould not stop Dunn from escaping.
Dunn’s escape attempt was only partly successful, so the Dark Turtles were forced to save him and take him back to their lair.
But Dunn wasn’t about to give up on taking over O’Neil tech and getting revenge on his nephew!

The next time Darius Dunn sent the Dark Turtles after the original turtles, he allowed them to come up with their own plan. Dark Leonardo suggested that if they couldn’t beat them, then maybe they should join them.

Dark Leonardo then staged a daylight assault. The Original and Dark Turtles both call Dark Leonardo stupid for making such a plan, and the original Raphael said that if they let the argument go on, the Dark Turtles might start fighting each other. As if his comment was a cue Dark Raphael started targeting Cody Jones. Dark Leonardo ordered him to back off, but he was ignored. Dark Donatello, on the Dark Turtle’s ship, suggested they split the difference, or the kid, and aimed the ships weapons at the boy!
Before anyone else could react, Dark Leonardo took the shot that was meant for Cody. The other Dark Turtles flee, leaving their gravely wounded leader behind. The Original Turtles are bewildered but they take Dark Leonardo into the O’Neil tower before the clone can succumb to his wounds.

While Dark Leonardo recovered, Cody and the Turtles gave him the chance to turn his back on Dunn and live with them. Except for Raphael who is against the saying that Dark Leonardo would never be anything but what he was made to be: A monster.

When the day came that Donatello thought Dark Leonardo was fully healed, he tested the clone’s strength. The results were poor, and he wondered if they’d have to look after the Dark Turtle for a few weeks longer. Raphael taunted Dark Leonardo until he lost his temper and demonstrated his full strength, revealing the fact he was faking his weakness. Unfortunately, Dark Leonardo’s full strength was enough to break the machine. Part of the machine fell forward toward Raphael and might have crushed him if Dark Leonardo hadn’t used that strength to knock the shrapnel away at the last moment. Dark Leonardo then roared at Raphael about how it didn’t matter if he had figured Dark Leonardo out because he was “Just a monster.” Donatello put up the force field that he had been using to prevent Dark Leonardo from attacking anyone, but Dark Leonardo doesn’t even try to attack Raphael, instead he just walked away.

That night, the Original Leonardo told Dark Leonardo the story of the “Frog and the Scorpion”, and told him that they would talk about Dark Leonardo’s future in the morning. As he left, he accidentally dropped the control for the force field. Dark Leonardo picked up the control deactivating the field, and contacts his brothers before heading for O’Neil tower’s security controls. That had been his plan all along: Deactivate the security from the inside just before a night ambush!

However, Leonardo was waiting for his dark clone; the dropped remote was a test to see if Dark Leonardo was a Turtle or a Scorpion. Dark Leonardo hang his head, saying he failed the test. Leonardo says he hadn’t, not yet, and he could still turn around and go back to his bed and talk in the morning just as Leonardo had said. It was clear that Dark Leonardo had questions about whom and what he was, and that the two Leonardos could find out together.
Dark Leonardo says it is too late, and that he was a scorpion as he sliced the security controls.

The two Leonardos fought. The original said that it didn’t have to be this way, and the Dark Clone disagreed even though he sounded pained as he said it. When the pair reach the other Dark Turtles, they find that not only was Leonardo awake, but so was everyone else. Seeing that the Dark Turtles were going to lose Dark Leonardo called the plan a bust and they fled. As they did so Cody aimed at the ship’s thrusters, but Leonardo stopped him, saying to let the Dark Turtles go.
It was over, for now.

Back at Dunn’s warehouse Darius was furious that the Dark Turtles had failed again. He threw a steak on the ground for them to eat, saying he hoped they’d choke on it. Where the Dark Turtles would normally fight over the scrap of food, this time Dark Leonardo tore the food into equal shares for his brothers. Perhaps Dark Leonardo’s stay with his original and his original’s family had changed him after all.

The turtles would never get the chance to find out. A few days later, unknown to Dunn and the Dark Turtles, Sh'Okanabo was experimenting with his own time machine, and something had gone wrong. Time Portals were opening up everywhere and one of them was right inside Dunn’s warehouse hideout. To make it worse, Black Mist flowed into the building from it!

Dark Leonardo doesn’t remember much of what happened after the warehouse was flooded with Black Mist. He knows he somehow fell though the time portal, but the next thing he was aware of was waking up in a back alley in Traverse Town. Dark Leonardo, not knowing what else to do, and liking the fact he didn’t have to put up with sunlight in the town, stayed there, stealing food and living on the streets until he found a letter in one of his usual hiding spots.

The letter was from Mickey Mouse, offering him a place in the academy….

Personality:
Dark Leonardo is a very conflicted person. He was made from the blood of a very noble and honourable being, the mutated turtle Leonardo Hamato. He has all the memories from Leonardo’s 16 years of life and yet he has only existed himself for a few months and was made for the sole propose of killing the original Leonardo.

He remembers Leonardo choosing to be the leader of the original Turtles, and yet Dark Leo was forced into the position of leader of the Dark Turtles. He remembers the original Turtles as loving brothers while he has to fight with his own brothers for food. This has left him an angry and resentful turtle, a growling and snarling bully who enjoys venting his frustrations on others and using fear to control them when he can't control himself.

But underneath that, he's still a clone of Leonardo Hamato. Dark Leo knows what honour is. Even if he doesn't fully understand it yet. He knows his actions are dishonourable, and he even calls himself a monster. This, and how he acts whenever someone shows him compassion, such as his surprise when Dark Raphael stood up for him when Dunn was dressing them down, shows he really doesn’t think he’s anything other than a weapon. Yet he also shows that he does want to be more than that. In "DNA is Thicker Than Water", after living with the turtles for only a short while, he saves the Original Raphael despite the fact that having the turtles down one member would make his life easier later. He also feels guilty about betraying the original turtles even though that had been the plan all along.

Yet when given the option to stay with the original turtles or go back to his life as Dunn's slave, he goes back with his brothers. However, instead of remaining a bully who leads though intimidation, he starts to take care of his brothers, such as sharing their food when they had always fought over it before. Dark Leonardo chose to stay the Dark turtle's leader, just as the original Leonardo had chosen to become the original Turtles’ leader.

And not only does he learn to care for his brothers, he already trusts them underneath all the insults and jibes. This is proven when he let Dark Donatello shoot him with a deadly weapon in “DNA is Thicker Than Water” as part of the plan.

It's hard to say which side of his personality he would grow into if given the chance the, honourable warrior or the childish bully. He might not even grow to be either, taking a third path, and perhaps, even a third name.

Greatest Fear: The death of his brothers, especially at Dunn's hand, because they have been implanted with a hypnotic command that means they can't fight back. The only thing he is 100% sure of is that he is the leader of the Dark Turtles. If they die, he loses the one piece of certainly he has. Ironically, he's also scared of the Original turtles dying. What are to become of the Dark turtles once they've done what they were made to do?

Has your character been at the Academy before/ does your character remembering being at the Academy before?: No.

What are you plans with this character?: Dark Leonardo had shown signs of character growth in the show before it was cancelled, and I want to see how he develops. If he will become a noble and honourable warrior similar to the original Leonardo, the Dark twisted version of Leonardo he was made to be, something in between, or something completely different.

*The enhanced vision (The ability to zoom in on what he's looking at and maybe night-vision. But not heat-vision) is based on the fact he has a cybernetic eye. There is no other canon evidence for him to have this ability, if you'd rather have me play him without enhanced vision I will.

Writing
Third person writing sample:
It wasn't half way through his first day at the academy that Dark Leonardo decided he could get to like this place. Of course it helped that it was lunch time.

The turtle was currently sitting in the corner of the canteen where he could see every exit ... or he would be able to see every exit if it wasn’t for the sheer amount of food he had piled up in front of him. Everything from steak, to pizza, to cakes, and even a little bit of salad. The clone was happily devouring the lot with no regard for manners, or what order he should be eating in. Tearing at the steak with his teeth, then swallowing a cupcake whole, then chasing it with a gulp of soda before taking a bite of pizza.

He paused for a second, his mouth covered in crumbs and peeked around his stack of food to see the rest of the canteen staring at him.

“What?” Dark Leonardo growled though his mouthful of pizza before swallowing. “You got a problem?!”

The turtle glared at everyone until at least most of them had turned away, struggling to eat their own food despite Dark Leonardo’s disgusting and off putting table manners. Then the unimaginable happened: someone dared to approach the turtle. Dark Leonardo pulled the food closer to him, hunching his shoulders and preparing to fight for what was his.

“What do you want?” The clone growled. “Don’t even think I’m gonna share!”
If it had been one of the Dark Turtles, he would have. But his brothers weren’t here and he didn’t care about anyone in this place. All he cared about was that the academy had given him a roof over his head, was going to help him fight the Mist, and most importantly of all, had given him all this lovely food--which he was not going to share! So unless the interloper, who was still standing at his table was a quick talker, he was going to have to deal with an angry turtle clone intent on defending what was his.

First person writing sample:
[It took awhile for Dark Leonardo to figure out how to make this work. He’s more used to devices that almost operate themselves. But he’s got it transmitting now, he thinks. The blue turtle frowns at the communicator at least his one yellow eye is frowning. His red and black electronic eye is emotionless and unmoved.]

They call me Dark Leonardo, and I'm not here to make friends. I'm just here to learn how to fight the Mist. So don’t bother trying to make nice.

...

But, if you see any other talking turtles, tell me about them, and I'll find away to pay you back. [The turtle clone then smiles showing a lot of teeth but not much happiness.] I'm sure some of you wouldn't mind having a little extra muscle on call.
